The literal meaning of chakra is “wheel.” They are considered to be spinning wheels of energy located at different points in the body. These are meant to stay “open” and aligned, since they correspond to major nerve bundles and organs, thus affecting our overall physical and mental well being.
Although there are 114 points in our body, the seven in the spine are considered the main chakra points.
These run from sacrum to the crown of the head as follows:
Root Chakra: Located at the base of the spine, it represents stability and security. However, when blocked, it causes physical ailments like arthritis and bladder or colon problems, or feelings of insecurity.
Sacral Chakra: This chakra point is located right above the pubic bones, and if blocked cause physical ailments like lower back pain and impotence. Emotionally, it is connected to self expression and creativity.
Solar Plexus Chakra: Located in the upper abdomen area, this chakra is a source of personal power. If blocked, it can also cause digestive issues like ulcers, eating disorders etc.
Heart Chakra: This chakra is located in the centre of the chest and bridges the upper and lower chakras, unifying our mind, body and spirit. If blocked, it can cause heart problems, asthma and weight issues or give rise to feelings of isolation.
Throat Chakra: As the name suggests, this chakra is located in the throat. It is the source of verbal expression. If blocked, ailments can be noticed in surrounding areas such as teeth, gums etc.
Third Eye Chakra: Also known as the brow chakra, it’s located between the yes on the forehead. A blockage can lead to headaches, eye problems or hearing issues. It also represents our centre of intuition, allowing us to see the bigger picture.
Crown Chakra: It’s located at the very top of the head, and is also called “the thousand petal chakra.” It’s linked to all other chakras in the body. This chakra represents our connection with ourselves and those around us. sacrum to the crown of the head. A person with a blocked crown chakra can experience affects in the brain and nervous system. They also seem narrow minded and stubborn.
