What is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient Indian philosophy that is divided into three stages:

  • Yogasanas (Postures)
  • Pranayama (yoga breathing techniques)
  • Meditation

Yoga teaches us to take care of our mind, body, and spirituality. Postures are the first stage that helps us to take care of our bodies by maintaining optimum health, thereby enabling us to live our day-to-day life smoothly. Pranayama is the next stage. The breathing as per Yoga is based on ‘prana’ (life), which is the source of our life.

The yogic breathing exercises help us to improve our health and allow us to attain optimum mind- body balance. The first two stages prepare the body and mind for meditation. Meditation helps us to quieten our minds, reduce our stress levels, and helps us to heal our bodies. Studies have shown that most of our diseases have psychosomatic causes. Stress reduction can prevent/cure these diseases. Regular practice of all these stages of Yoga enables us to build a strong body and a clear mind.

Who Can Practice Yoga?

Yoga can be safely practiced by adults of any age as it is not as strenuous as some other forms of physical exercise. Yoga routines can also be customized for people with physical limitations. The routines can be different for old age, obesity, and for people who lack fitness due to inactivity for years. We offer specialized routines for patients and people recovering from injuries.

Yoga is not recommended for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Certain yoga exercises are also not suitable during menstruation. However, we encourage regular practice of meditation and breathing techniques.
